Early Life
Behati Prinsloo was born on May 16, 1988, in Grootfontein, South Africa, (now Namibia). Her mother, Magda, runs a bed and breakfast, and her father, Boet, is a minister. Behati's native language is Afrikaans, but she learned English during her youth. Prinsloo attended Grootfontein Secondary School and dropped out after Grade 9 to pursue a modeling career. At age 16, she was discovered in a grocery store while visiting Cape Town with her grandparents. Behati told "Fashionista" magazine, "This guy came up to me and asked if I was a model and wrote his number on a piece of paper and my grandfather was like this is so shady. So we went home and told my parents about it and never did anything." She stated that the next time she visited Cape Town, she was approached by Noelle Doukas, the daughter of Storm Agency founder Sarah Doukas, which led to Behati signing with the agency.
Career
In 2006, Prinsloo made her runway debut as a Prada/Miu Miu exclusive, and Models.com named her one of the top 10 new faces of Fashion Week. She was soon photographed by Juergen Teller for Marc by Marc Jacobs, which was Behati's first ad campaign. Paolo Roversi and Mario Testino then photographed her for "British Vogue," and David Sims photographed her for "W Magazine." In 2007, she walked in her first Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and has gone on to walk in eight more. In 2008, Prinsloo was the face of Victoria Secret's Pink casualwear line, and she became a Victoria's Secret Angel the following year. In 2010, she designed a swimsuit collection, "Behati Loves Pink," for Victoria's Secret, and she has also designed a denim collection for THVM and a line of clothing and accessories for Juicy Couture. Besides her modeling work, Behati has appeared in the Maroon 5 music videos "Animals," "Cold," "Wait" (Snapchat version)," "Girls Like You," and "Lost" as well as videos by The Virgins ("Rich Girls") and Selena Gomez ("Hands to Myself").
